JSC “OPK Oboronprom” project committee has approved construction of JSC Klimov innovative design and manufacturing facility.
The new facility will be constructed at one of the Klimov’s existing manufacturing sites and will be in line with the world aviation leaders’ facilities. This is a unique and the most up-to-date project in the Russian aviation industry. It will include a new generation design bureau for development of aviation engines. Design, testing and manufacturing will be based at one site.
Project investment volume is 3.8 billion roubles, payback time is expected to be around 7 years.
The implementation of JSC Klimov innovative project will allow to (compared to 2009)
-shorten the new products development time from 8-10 to 3-4 years
-shorten the mass production lead time from 4 to 2 years
-reduce the number of prototypes before certification from 45 to 12
-increase the output per employee from 57 000 USD pa to 205 000 USD pa
During the construction of the new facility JSC Klimov will not stop production and will retain all of its design and manufacturing capabilities.
JSC “OPK Oboronprom” represented by management company “United Engine Building Corporation” is implementing the state policy targeting the modernization of the military-industrial complex and innovative development of the manufacturing industry.
Construction of the new facility is a part of the “United Engine Building Corporation” strategy to develop next generation competitive aviation engines and creates new possibilities for international cooperation.
Construction of the new design and manufacturing facility is widely supported by St.Petersburg city administration. In October 2009 under the name “Petersburg Engines” the project was named the best 2009 industrial innovation project in St.Petersburg in the Industry sector at 2nd St.Petersburg International Innovations Forum part of Russian Innovations Week.
This strategic project for Russian aviation industry also has high social, political and economic importance for the Russian Federation.
