Testing facilities for principal components and systems of power plants

Main assemblies and systems of power plants are tested at a station with adjustment and service life test benches, as well as a vibration and balancing laboratory for strength tests on assemblies, parts and components of gas turbine engines.

This equipment provides a comprehensive range of research and adjustment tests on main assemblies, modules and systems during power plant design and development.

Testing station

The testing station provides precise and fast performance measurements for gas generators, turbines, axial centrifugal and centrifugal compressors.

Performance tests at the station include:

  • Hot tests on combustion chambers and their individual sections to determine the distribution of temperatures, extent of combustion and operation stability
  • Air flow tests on nozzles, turbines, gas collectors, diffusers and heat exchangers
  • Hot air flow tests on cooled blades
  • Hot air flow tests on blades and turbine disk rims with the air supplied by working spray burners and starter spray burners
  • Calibration of probes, nozzles and flow-measuring tubes.

The station includes benches for hot tests, acceleration and other types of tests on:

  • Ball bearings, hydraulic systems, sealing, couplers and other components
  • Afterburners with VTN nozzles
  • Fuel and oil systems
  • Air starters
  • Turbine disks, axial and centrifugal compressors
  • Aircraft auxiliary gearboxes

Vibration and balancing laboratory

This unique laboratory is equipped with the following test benches:

  • Triaxial loading test bench
  • Electrodynamic vibration benches for various vibration strength and endurance tests on engine modules and parts, including the blade-disk joint at temperatures of operation
  • Vibration test bench for engines and large assemblies
  • Air vibration test for fatigue tests on engine hulls and components
  • Static loading test for engine components with the load up to 100 tons
  • Impact test bench
  • Equipment for testing and gauging vibration benches
  • Acceleration and balancing test bench for rotors (up to 50,000 rpm)
