Klimov — aero engines design company

ENGINE TEST BENCHES

The company has 16 benches for testing assembled engines (turbojet, including dual-flow, turboprop and turboshaft engines. The available equipment fully meets current and prospective engine test needs until 2012.

All test benches at Klimov feature automatic digital control systems. ?

Turbojet engines

Test benches for turbojet engines are good for TJE with propulsion from 500 to 6000 kgf and TJDFE with propulsion up to 11,000 kgf.

Special and experimental tests may be performed on engines with the propulsion of up to 10,000 kgf.

Tests on engines for unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) may be performed in the propulsion range from 100 to 1000 kgf.

Turboprop and turboshaft engines

Klimov’s facilities may be used for testing turboprop engines with the propeller power up to 4,000 hp (TV7-117C).

Dedicated hydraulic drag benches are available for performance measurement, special tests and service life tests for engines:

  • With the power less than 200 hp (GTDE-117 type)
  • With the power less than 1500 hp (GTD-1000 type)
  • With the power less than 3000 hp (TV3-117 type)
  • With the power less than 4000 hp (TV7-117V type)

Special performance tests on turboshaft engines are available that simulate various altitudes and climates with the help of thermal vacuum chambers (TVC):

  • The large TVC is good for engines with the power up to 1,700 hp (VK-800 and VK-1500 type). Simulated altitude may reach 9,000 meters, while the temperature may range from -40 до +60 oС;
  • The small TVC is designed to test the starting performance of gas turbine engines at altitudes up to 18,000 m and temperatures from -50 до +60 oС.
